According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), two people were tragically killed after the boom of a crane fell onto and crushed a 2013 Toyota pickup on the I-10 west of Beaumont. The tragic incident occurred on April 23, 2021.
Sarfaraz Karowadia, 37, and Altaf Kasowadia, 42, both died at the scene of the crane accident. According to reports, construction crews were working in the area with the heavy crane when the equipment fell on the pickup.
DPS is currently overseeing the investigation. However, since there were fatalities involved in the incident, OSHA and federal officials are also assisting DPS. The Texas Department of Transportation is also involved in the investigation since the incident involved a contractor working on the I-10 widening project.
