Thirty-seven percent of fatal crashes during Memorial Day involve a drunk driver. Statistics also show that 12 red lights are run through every second during this weekend and 52 percent of traffic deaths occur when someone wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

#2: Labor Day

The second deadliest holiday to drive is Labor Day. In the last three years, there were over 1,330 fatal crashes that occurred during Labor Day weekend. Statistics show that 445 average fatal crashes occur during the four-day period; that’s 20% more fatal crashes than the average holiday.

#3: Independence Day

Independence day has consistently been one of the deadliest holidays to drive for the last few years. According to the NHTSA, there were 1,319 fatal crashes over the last three-year study period. That’s an average of 440 fatal crashes per four-day period.

#4: New Year’s Eve

New Year's Eve is another holiday with high fatal car accidents. Research shows that there are about 1,079 fatal car accidents that occur every year within the four-day period. That’s an average of 360 deadly car accidents that occur every year. Thirty-six percent of car accidents are caused due to drunk driving.
