A small plane that was traveling to the Kerrville Municipal Airport from the West Houston Airport crashed in a private ranch, killing the six passengers that were on board.
The crash occurred on Monday, April 22nd at 9 a.m. The passengers, all Houston residents, ranged from age 45 to 65.
The plane (a two-engine Beechcraft BE58) was thought to be preparing to land when it crashed at the ranch, which is about six miles from the Kerrville Municipal Airport. Several witnesses said they saw the plane descending quickly, and some heard the crash. Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety were the first to arrive at the scene.
Although a report on the full details on the crash could take at least a year to complete, the National Transportation Safety Board held a press conference on Tuesday, April 23rd to release their current findings. The cause of the crash is unknown, but officials stated that the trajectory of the plane was “inconsistent with trying to land,” reported KPRC2 News. It is believed that the plane was flying too low for a landing, raising more questions about the cause of the incident.
The 65-year-old pilot, a personal wealth manager, was known as an experienced pilot — he had flown over 5,000 hours, and would often volunteer to pilot private trips, as well as assisting in emergency situations. The passengers included an architect, the owner of a landscaping business and one of his employees, and a high school girl’s lacrosse coach and her husband. The victims’ friends said the group was traveling to look at property in Hunt, TX that was owned by the couple.
The crash is still being investigated, and will likely continue for several months. Although a complete report is developing, officials are planning to release an initial report soon.
