At around 2 in the morning on Thursday, Nov. 14, the driver of a Greyhound Bus was facing mechanical difficulties. She pulled over to the shoulder of Interstate 45, put out emergency flashers and caution triangles, and called for another bus to pick up her passengers.
While the entire bus full of people was waiting for help, an 18-wheeler barreled into the vehicle, injuring at least 5 passengers. The semi-truck, which was part of the Anheuser-Busch “Seed to Sip” campaign, also took out a large traffic sign and scattered water bottles along the freeway.
According to ABC 13, an investigation is underway to find the cause of the accident. DPS Sgt. Erik Burse stated:
“[The] Greyhound bus was disabled on the side of the roadway, and it was struck by an 18-wheeler. That’s where we are at right now in the investigation.”
In the aftermath of the collision, 21 passengers boarded another Greyhound bus to their destination and 5 of them were transported to Hermann Memorial The Woodlands Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver sustained minor injuries, as well.
When discussing the bus driver, Sgt. Burse said, “What she did, she did right,” so fault seems to rest with the driver of the semi-truck.
That being said, the investigation is still in progress, and many factors can come into play during both bus accidents and truck accidents.
Those injured in the accident may be entitled to compensation from Greyhound, the shipping company, and/or the truck driver, and should consider hiring a local attorney.
