Three workers suffered injuries during an explosion at a San Antonio cement plant in late February. The explosion – which happened around 2:00 p.m. on February 24 th – took place in the Northeast Side in the 11000 block of Nacogdoches Road.

The San Antonio Fire Department reported to the plant shortly after 2:00. A Fire Department spokesperson stated that the cement plant’s carbon dioxide suppressant system had extinguished the fire before emergency services arrived.

Officials have reported that three workers suffered burns to their face as a result of the explosion and subsequent fire. One employee was reportedly taken to a local hospital shortly after the incident. No official cause of the explosion has been reported.

Although safety officials are still investigating the incident, the explosion helps serve as a reminder that workers in industrial settings face serious risks and hazards on a daily basis. As such, it is crucial that employers take reasonable measures to protect employees, and that injured workers are compensated in the event of on-the-job injury.
