Heavy rains and severe flooding have been taking their toll on Texas residents. Throughout the holiday weekend, residents across the state saw torrential rains, tornadoes, and flooding that damaged thousands of homes and properties. Authorities are still working to clean up debris and find missing individuals.

Here are some of the latest updates on the flooding in Austin, Central Texas, and statewide:

• Although most water receded by Tuesday morning, local property owners expect that it will likely take days to clean up and many businesses have reported closures in order to clean or make repairs.
• Officials from Austin-Travis County EMS made over 25 water rescues on Monday, including Monday afternoon when flooding reached its peak.
• Authorities have stated that over 40 people are currently missing or unaccounted for. Several deaths have been reported in Houston and Central Texas.

Severe weather and flooding has been a problem throughout Texas and in other parts of the region, including Oklahoma and Mexico. Given the number of individuals who are missing or unaccounted for - including 8 family members who were in a vacation home when it was swept down the Blanco River in Hays County - authorities believe that the death toll could rise beyond 10 victims.
