Earlier this week - on Monday April, 20 th - Blue Bell Creameries expanded a previous recall to include all of its products on the market due to concerns that they may be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious illness and death. The company - which manufactures Blue Bell brand ice cream - has recalled all products being marketing in 23 states. These products include:
- Ice cream
- Frozen yogurt
- Frozen snacks
Officials from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) are advising consumers to not eat any Blue Bell products - and to throw away or return any products they may have in their homes.
According to the FDA, several samples of Blue Bell ice cream products tested positive for listeria monocytogenes. Additionally, multiple illnesses and cases of death have been associated with listeria contamination in Blue Bell products.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the time of the recall, listeria infections linked to Blue Bell had been reported in multiple states, including several cases in Texas. Additionally, three deaths have been reported in Kansas within the past year.
The Daspit Law Firm is encouraging residents throughout Texas and other states where Blue Bell products are marketed to be aware of the recall and to keep the following in mind:
- Know the symptoms - Common symptoms of listeria infection (listeriosis) resemble flu symptoms and can include fever, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.
- Know who is most as risk - Symptoms are more severe and concerning for young children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems. Listeria can also cause complications - including miscarriage and stillbirth - in pregnant women.
- Protect Yourself - Do not consume any Blue Bell products and be sure to throw away or return any Blue Bell products you may have in your freezer. Earlier this week, another ice cream company - Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams - also voluntarily recalled their frozen products due to concerns about Listeria contamination.
If you or someone you love has become ill after eating Blue Bell products, The Daspit Law Firm is available to review your case and discuss whether you may be able to pursue a Blue Bell Lawsuit.
